Lost to Daito University in the first match of the second round of the league match, unable to catch a rebound

The 26-game Kanto University league match (league match) finally reached its second round, and played against Daito University in the 14th round. From the start of the first quarter (Q), Waseda took the lead in the match by scoring three points in quick succession. However, in the 2nd quarter, he could not get a rebound in front of the foreign student player of Daito University, and the flow was tilted. There was a scene where G Naohide Hotta (Sports 1 = Higashiyama, Kyoto) was able to catch up in the second half with a three-pointer, but the point difference did not shrink and he lost 57-70.

From the start of the match, Ghori Haruki (Sports 1 = Higashiyama, Kyoto)’s 3-pointers and drives shined, and Waseda got on the flow with offense. Finished the 1st quarter with a 1 point lead of 16-15. However, in the 2nd quarter, an international player from Daito University scored consecutive points from the rebound, and the point difference gradually widened. Waseda University, on the other hand, has a low percentage of shots made on the outside, and this Q scored only 4 points. The game ended at 20-36.

Even in the third quarter, Daito University’s rebound momentum cannot be stopped. Hotta scored three consecutive 3-pointers to give the team some momentum, but the score difference was not reduced and the score ended at 40-55. In the 4th quarter, F Yuzuki Ishizaka (Sports 2 = Tokyo Kokugakuin Kugayama) played an active role in offense and defense, such as receiving a foul from a pass that was matched on the inside. However, there was an unfortunate foul under the goal, and Waseda couldn’t find the rhythm in the game. We lost 57-70 as it was.

The team could not thoroughly rebound during the time when the shot was not entered, and the point difference in the 2nd Q was on the end of the game. However, as Ishizaka said, “I was not hit by the post, so it was good there,” I saw growth in defense. Also, the shouts from the bench did not stop until the end of the match. Although we lost the match, it should have been a game where we could find the goodness of the team. The next round will be against Shindai, who lost narrowly in the first round. Hori enthusiastically said, “I think I’m useless if I lose, so I want to win.”

Yuzuki Ishizaka (Sports 2 = Kokugakuin Kugayama, Tokyo)

――It means that you are recovering from injury, but what is your condition?

Conditions were not good.

――Among them, what is your play?

The problem that the team raised was that we were unable to reach the contest when the opponents had scored 3s in rebounding and defense.

――In the second half, I had the impression that you were actively trying to get rebounds.

My body wasn’t moving in the first half, and someone other than the international student took the rebound. I knew that from before, but I couldn’t finish it.

――Why is that?

The opponent took a shot and I just watched it. The markman should have boxed out as soon as I took the shot, but I wondered if that was loose, and the shooter took the rebound. I was trying to get in front of the international students so that they wouldn’t get caught, but that’s a problem for us as a team.

――Are there any defensive rules for international students?

When I entered by post, I decided the direction to go. As for that part, I didn’t get hit by the post, so that’s a good part.

――About the offense

I’m practicing matching and timing. As for offense, I think there weren’t many paint attacks. I think I was relying on three points. Since the time to enter does not last forever, I think that paint attack is necessary at such times.

――Did you have a most memorable play in the match?

When I first made the ball, I missed the ball because I was weak in the bottom of the goal, but in the second half I was able to score many times, so I think that was a good thing.

――For the next race

Kobe University is a team that works hard on offensive rebounds, so I think it’s important to keep rebounding as a challenge and thoroughly manage box-outs.

Haruki Hori (Sports 1 = Higashiyama, Kyoto)

– Looking back on today’s game

The opponent gave me too many rebounds, so I couldn’t take them all and lost. At the time of the 2nd quarter, I don’t think we were able to score at all.

――You decided on a 3P, but are you practicing?

I used to be good at driving, but recently I had a 3P during practice. (Today as well) I got in when I hit it (laughs).

――Didn’t you practice in particular?

No, naturally (laughs).

– Regarding defense

I tried my best not to foul.

――I think the atmosphere was really good from the beginning to the end.Did you agree to change something?

We were talking about fighting together as a team.

–What is this salt (on the desk)?

I play at full capacity and my legs tend to get cramps, so I eat during matches. I’ve been doing it since high school, so I’m not sure if it’s effective (laughs).

――What do you need to do to win the second round?

We don’t have size, so I think it’s important to get a rebound and finish the opponent’s attack in one shot, then attack quickly from there.

――Please tell us your enthusiasm for tomorrow’s God War.

I would like to win because I feel that I am useless if I lose!
