Valencia recovers the best tennis with the Faulcombridge Cup and the Open City of Valencia

Today was the presentation of the Faulcombridge Cup and the Open City of Valencia which will be held in the city of Valencia from November 20 to 27 at the facilities of the Valencia Tennis Club. The act was attended by the deputy for Youth and Sports, Andrés Campos; the Councilor for Sports of the Valencia City Council, Javier Mateo; the director of the Open Ciudad de València, Ana Salas and the director of the Faulcombridge Cup, Pablo Andújar. In addition, the event was also attended by the former professional tennis player and director of the Spanish Davis Cup team, David Ferrer, and the players of the senior team of the Valencia Tennis ClubAngela Fita and Carlos Taberner.

The Faulcombridge Cup returns next November after 20 years of last edition. This clay court tournament will be framed within ATP Challenger 90 and will feature the participation of 32 players in singles and 16 in pairs. For its part, the Open Ciudad de València, an international women’s tennis tournament that corresponds to the circuit Professional ITFcelebrates its sixth edition with 32 players in the individual modality and 16 in doubles of more than 20 nationalities.

The sports councilor of the Valencia City Council, Xavier Matthew, has highlighted that “València is going to be the epicenter of international tennis again, and it already seems that we are getting used to it. I would like to thank the centenary tennis club, Pablo Andújar, Ana Salas, and all those who make it possible for this historic tournament to recover for the city in its two categories”.

The Faulcombridge Cup is a competition created by the Valencia Tennis Club in 1933 and was played in the city for more than half a century. Throughout its history, Spanish tennis legends such as Manolo Santana, Andrés Gimeno or Manuel Orantes have participated in this event, until its last edition was held in 2002 with the victory of David Ferrer.

Now under the direction of Ana Salas and Pablo Andújar and with the collaboration of different entities such as the City Council of Valencia and the Municipal Sports Foundation of Valencia, the Generalitat Valenciana or the Diputació de Valencia, the city is recovering this event where the best tennis will once again gather international
