Uni eats Araski (69-76) and will play the final against Valencia

Uni will play in the Super Cup final tomorrow (20.00 hours/Teledeporte) after defeating Araski (69-76) in a match that the Girona side controlled from head to toe. Marianna Tolo made her debut with a note (12 points) without even having trained with the team and Laia Flores directed the game successfully (8 assists) to overcome the Basques. The women from Girona will face the reigning champions, Valencia Basketball, who defeated Perfumerías Avenida with a stellar performance from escort Ángela Salvadores (32 points).

Spar Girona took advantage of the nervousness of the Vitorianas at the start of the duel to easily take the lead (4-10). Madelén Urieta, faced with the haze of her players, was forced to stop the game with a timeout. However, Araski did not react and the Girona girls took advantage of the opportunity to get ahead on the scoreboard at the end of the first quarter (9-18). Unfortunately for the hosts, Rebekah Gardner has woken up in defense and attack to uncover the defensive disorder of Araski, who has maintained her mental block (7 turnovers) to allow the Girona women to place the maximum difference on the scoreboard ( 11-30). Everything looked like flowers and violets for Bernat Canut’s team, but with three minutes to go before the break, an 8-0 run revived the Victorians, who moved within three points (31-34). Atkinson in attack (9 points) and Diarra in defense (3 blocks) have reactivated the Urrieta team to go to the break only 4 points behind (31-36).

After the half, the Girona girls suffered even more, with a very even partial score, 20-23. Three actions in a row by Holopainen, with a basket in between by Labuckiene, has left the locals only one point (37-38), and then, Ankintson managed, for the first and only time in the entire game, to catch the Girona players and get the tie (42-42). Uni, however, would not allow themselves to be trampled on, and the white-and-blacks went 0-5 to dispel the intentions of the Basques.

Araski’s turnovers paved the way for Spar Girona, who were up +12 (51-63) at the start of the last quarter thanks to their quick counterattacks. The Basques refused to give up the game and, captained by Asurmendi, closed the gap to be within six points with four minutes to go (62-68). Gardner and Araújo, with cold blood, destroyed the options of the Basques with a 4-0 mini-partial with 3 minutes from the end (64-76) that Urieta’s could not save. A 5-0 run by Chavas made up the final result (69-76).
