The Warriors-Lakers of October 18, a madness for the ticket office

If the NBA continues to do very well and to be a flourishing business, it is because the people who consume it are ready to put in the means to maintain their passion. The Golden State Warriors know something about it, they who are preparing to make colossal profits thanks to the box office of the Chase Center. Here is a striking example.

On October 18, for the start of the 2022-2023 season, the Warriors will host the Los Angeles Lakers. Although it’s a nice display between the defending champion and the most publicized team in the league, it is only the first of 82 matches played by the two teams. We do not necessarily suspect what the fans are ready to do to attend.

According to ticketing site TickPick, this Warriors vs. Lakers is simply going to be the second most “expensive” regular season game in NBA history when it comes to average ticket price purchased. To secure a place at the Chase Center that night, you have to be able to pay, on average, $897. A madness when one places oneself from the point of view of a European fan, accustomed to the prices of basketball halls in Europe, even in legendary halls, or even football stadiums.

Only one regular season game is ahead of this Warriors-Lakers: the last game of the career of Kobe Bryant in 2016 against Utah. To be able to say “I was there”, you had to be able, on average, to put in $1,137. For once, we understand the historical side of the meeting and the fact that the price is so high. But if a season opener climbs like the one played in San Francisco in just over a month, records will be broken soon…
