The Oviedo Badminton Club grows at home and fights until the final

The Oviedo Badminton Club promised to fight with all its might in search of a new success in the Iberdrola Cup, despite having a young and under-construction team, and they fulfilled it. And that fight without quarter led him to win the silver medal in what is his fetish competition. He counts his participations by metals: two golds, two bronzes and now a second place. Only the Sevillian Rinconada could separate the Asturian club from the first drawer of the podium.

The Cup was full of excitement. The semifinal between the CBO and Alicante was very tight, which was decided at the last moment. Although the doubles added twice, never better said, for the carbayonas (Kristina Sotomayor-Amaia Torralba and Laura Álvarez-Leyre Suberviola), the Alicante women managed to equalize with triumphs by Inés Costero over Laura Garijo and Ana Ramírez over Sotomayor. In a heart-stopping final, Laura Álvarez beat Ana Caballero (11-10, 11-3, 10-11 and 11-10) to put Oviedo through to their third Iberdrola Cup final.

The final was another story, and Rinconada showed their favoritism by winning 3-1. That the company was too complicated for the group led by Fran Dacal and Alberto Zapico was demonstrated by the defeat of the two doubles, the main weapon of the CBO during the competition. In the first game, Kristina Sotomayor and Amaia Torralba fell to Leona Lee and Laura Molina, while Laura Álvarez and Leyre Suberviola were defeated, despite fighting until the end, by former CBO Claudia Leal and Marta Molina.

Despite everything, Oviedo did not give up and debutant Laura Garijo added the first local point by beating María Ojeda (11-4, 11-8 and 11-9). It was precisely Claudia Ojeda who sentenced her former team by beating Amaia Torralba.

César González, technical director of the club, expressed his satisfaction with the development of the competition: “We are very happy at a sporting and organizational level, what we have experienced during these two days confirms that we have a high-level youth academy, with players prepared to big challenges”.
