The Gauchos fought back, but their dream of reaching the World Baseball Classic will remain on hold after losing to Nicaragua

The Argentine National Team of that sport had to beat the Central Americans to continue with chances. They lost 6-5 against a better ranked country, which they demanded until the end.

The dream is over World Baseball Classic for Gauchos, who also said goodbye with their heads held high in the qualifying tournament in Panama for next year’s big event. The Argentine team made a great match and demanded the most from Nicaraguawho had to work hard to win 6-5 at the stadium Rod Carew.

The Argentines, located in the 27th step of the world ranking and who played the Pre Clásico for the first time, made a rival suffer who is the 15th best team in the world and has a much richer baseball culture.

The Nicaraguans went ahead 2-0 in the second inning, but the light blue and white team did not shrink and in the fourth managed to equalize the score, with scores from Exequiel Talevi y Cypriot Jacinto. and in the next inningThe Gauchos took control of the duel and took a 4-2 lead, with scores from Lucas Stalman and Talevi promoted by Cipriota.

After the break, Argentina leveled the score once again with an unexpected home run by Stalman, which left the score 5-5. Dwight Britton he drove in the tiebreaking run with a single before the bottom of the seventh inning. Argentina, meanwhile, closed its first participation in a Pre Clásico with a balance of two victories and two defeats – it had won 7-4 against Pakistan in the debut, then he had lost 11 to 0 against Panama and on Sunday he had won 4 to 1 against New Zealand– and with the feeling that, although the passage to the World Cup has not been achieved, a great role has been played.

It is that as I had commented to Clarin Guy Monisteam’s historic pitcher, in the preview of the tournament: “This contest is a unique opportunity for all of us who have been rowing it for years in a sport that is not so popular and for Argentine baseball to continue growing. Reaching the Clásico would be a dream. But we know that having a good turnout, playing a good role, we could ensure that we get invited back to the tournament in four years. And that would be incredible.”

That goal was met.
