The footballers of Slovácko lost 0:1 to Kolín in the EKL and lost hope of promotion

In the fifth round of the European Conference League, the players from Slovácko lost 0:1 to Kolín nad Rýnem and lost their hope of advancing from Group D. In the 82nd minute, Ondrej Duda scored a goal from a penalty kick. Home goalkeeper Filip Nguyen previously saved another Cologne penalty in the 51st minute.

“Controversial moments decided, and it’s terrible that there is no VAR in such competitions. The referee would have looked at it and the question is whether he wanted to blow the whistle. In my opinion, it was done deliberately, I’m convinced of it, from my point of view it smacked of great tendency, ” said the coach of Slovácko, Martin Svědík, at the press conference.

The match was suspended after seven minutes in a goalless state due to fog on Thursday and was played today from 1 p.m. Slovácko failed to win at home in the EKL even on the third try: before that they drew with Partizan Belgrade 3:3 and lost to Nice 0:1.

In the second match of Group D, Nice beat Partizan Belgrade 2:1 on Thursday. Both of these teams have eight points each, Kolín has seven after today’s win. Slovácko will finish last in the group, having gained four points so far. Two teams will advance to the spring elimination round. “In Belgrade, we will play for points towards the Czech coefficient and for money into the club coffers,” Svědík said.

The play-off started today at the time of Thursday’s end in the eighth minute with a throw-in by the visitors, in unchanged lineups and in front of a full stadium again. From the first minutes, the duel had a sharp pace, the game flowed from goal to goal, however, there were no clear chances for a long time.

It was only after half an hour that the offside flag stopped Kalabiška after a long kick, and Adamjan had the opportunity to excel in the counterattack, but he did not use it in the penalty area. Duskí had the best chance to open the scoring for the Slovácko team in the 42nd minute, who hit the post of Schwäbe’s goal from a difficult angle after Tomič’s crossed cross.

In the 50th minute, the Georgian referee ordered a penalty kick after a fight between Trávník and Adamjan, Nguyen jumped to the post and neutralized the shot of Cologne captain Kainz. The game also took on an emotional dimension, both coaches received a yellow card, but the picture of the game did not fundamentally change. The offensive of Slovácko was driven by the tireless Petržela and in the 61st minute he got a chance to score, but he headed just over the line from the edge of the penalty area.

In the 73rd minute, after Schindler’s action, Adamjan rushed to finish again, but Nguyen was on the spot again. This was also true in the 79th minute during the action of substitute Slovak Duda. The decision was made in the 82nd minute, when the referee whistled another penalty kick after Kohút’s contact with Tigges, and this time Duda Ngyuen beat him. “I was on the ground and a Kolín player tripped my legs and fell too. I think the referee didn’t want to whistle it and decided on a penalty only at the request of the assistant,” said Michal Kohút about the situation.

In the end, emotions flared on both sides. Visiting Schirí hit the bar, the equalizer hung in the air at the other end, but Slovácko’s final push was wasted. The Czech team did not win the fifth duel in a row against the German opponents in the cups.
