200 girls and 200 boys will swim, cycle and run in pairs in this new event organized by the Nik Tri Triathlon Team.
This Saturday, the first triathlon for mixed couples will take place in Zarautz, organized by the Nik Tri Triathlon Team. 400 athletes will take part in this new test: 200 girls and 200 boys will swim, cycle and run in pairs. 100 of the participants are also from Zarauz.
The 1st Popular Triathlon of Mixed Couples will start at 12:30 noon, at the port. Then they will cycle to and from Getaria, and, finally, they will run along the Zarauzko boardwalk, finishing in Munoa square. The distance to be covered is 350 meters swimming, 7,000 meters cycling and 2,250 meters running.
As the organizers have explained, “it is a short test with little difficulty, designed for those who want to try triathlon for the first time”. The departures will be given in groups of 5 pairs, according to the bib number, with another 5 pairs leaving every 30 seconds. Couples numbered 1-5 will leave Zarauzko port for the beach at 12:30 p.m. and couples numbered 196-200 at 12:50 p.m. The reason for staggered departures is to avoid crowding, and by the way, it will not be known who is going first and last.

It will be the first triathlon that will gather as many women as men, they added that “we want to attract women to the triathlon and we have relied on this when thinking about this new format”. The athletes have given them a good welcome, as despite the new format, all the places have been filled. “Competitiveness and podiums aside”, they have organized a huge raffle and a barbecue among all the participants. Spectators will also have the opportunity to enjoy the barbecue, as the party atmosphere will prevail on Saturday morning in Zarautz.
