The Department of Sports launches a new School Sports Program for which the participation of nearly 40,000 students from 140 educational centers is expected

The City Council of Murcia, through the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports directed by the mayor Pedro García Rex, has prepared a new Sports Program for School Age for the 2022/2023 season, for which the participation of about 40,000 is expected. students from 140 schools.

García Rex highlighted “the City Council’s commitment to promoting sporting activity from childhood to which this and other programs aimed at promoting grassroots sport in the municipality respond.”

The School Sports Program, which can be accessed from schools, is divided into two campaigns; one for sports competition and another for sports promotion. In the sports competition campaign, the Internal Championship by School Center will take place for the benjamín, alevín, infantil, cadet and juvenile categories; the Regional School Championship and the Municipal School Championship in the same categories. Likewise, the sports promotion campaign will include the activity of the sports schools and the municipal sports-recreational activity.

51 facilities and 15 sports modalities

To carry out this program, 16 municipal facilities are made available in the urban area and 35 in the districts, with 33 pavilions, 14 sports centres, 1 athletics stadium, 1 beach volleyball court, 1 rugby field and the Palace of sports.

The students who participate in the program will be able to choose between 15 sports modalities: chess, athletics, badminton, basketball, handball, futsal, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, wrestling, mate, multisport, rugby, table tennis, beach volleyball, volleyball and 3×3.
