The author of the massive stabbing that this Thursday left one dead and four injured, including the Spanish soccer player from Monza Pablo Marí, in a supermarket in Milan has confessed that he did it out of “envy.”

The subject, identified as Andrea Tombolini, 46, assures that he felt the impulse to attack the people gathered at the Carrefour de Assago seeing them “all happy”according to confirmed sources of the investigation.

Tombolini, who has no criminal record, is going through a severe depression. On Thursday afternoon he entered the establishment, he took a knife from one of the shelves and began to stab the people he came across, resulting in one fatality, a cashier of Bolivian origin.

Tombolini is confined in a psychiatric institution because there is a “real risk” that he will attack again

The confessed perpetrator of the events was arrested and charged with murder and attempted multiple homicide. After giving a statement he was transferred to a psychiatric institution where he remains confined before the “royal risk” of committing another attack of a similar nature, according to what the authorities informed the Italian media.

The Spanish soccer player Pablo Marí was rushed to the Niguarda hospital in Milan where he underwent surgery to reduce the muscle damage caused by the stab wound.

“I was with my baby stroller and I felt excruciating pain in my back. So that man stabbed another in the throat. Today I was lucky, because I saw a person die in front of me, ”said the player, a native of Valencia and former teams such as Deportivo or Arsenal, to the general director of Monza, Adriano Galliani.
