Swiatek accepts that she doesn’t always have to be 100% motivated

Nobody would be surprised if Every Swiatek was the winner in the WTA Finals 2022. The Polish tennis player comes from winning her eighth title of the season in San Diego, with Roland Garros and the US Open between them in a year to frame. After Ashleigh Barty’s withdrawal, Swiatek took over to settle on top, increasing her distance with her rivals practically every week. Next week she will start the WTA Finals debuting against Daria Kasatkina, a tennis player whom she has won four of the five times they have faced each other. Ella iga commented in a press conference how she faces the tournament, where she finds the motivation to stay at the top and the doping case of Simona Halep.

How has your preparation for the WTA Finals been?

“The conditions are totally different, now I need to adapt to the ball again. I have to put more energy and control the ball. In San Siego I felt so comfortable with the Dunlop ball that I didn’t have to think about it. The preparation went well, we did everything planned. Now I feel fresher physically and that’s what matters, I can give everything in games. In this part of the season I am not training too much, so I am enjoying the free time”, commented the number one in the world.

The competition, a source of inspiration for Iga

“I have accepted that I don’t always have to feel 100% motivated. Sometimes, especially after the Grand Slams, when you play those smaller tournaments, you feel like the energy level is a little bit lower. On the other hand, when I go out on the track, I always want to win. I rely on that motivation. I know that when I’m on the track that’s not going to change. Even when I have a lower level of motivation, it is enough for me to give my 100%. I’ve been through times where I wasn’t that motivated, the grass tour is a period where I’m more confused than motivated. Still, I feel the same kind of emotions and the same adrenaline.”

On the Simona Halep doping case

“It was confusing for me because I did not expect to receive that news. Simona, from my point of view, seems like a person who always cared about being fair and was a great example for me. I hope that the situation becomes clearer for the fans and for us. It’s kind of disappointing and she must feel really bad. The most important thing for me is to take care of yourself and keep yourself safe, be careful. Right now it’s my start because I’ve always had people around me who took care of it,” Swiatek told the media.
