Rostock coach Held: Can keep up in the Bundesliga | Sports

The basketball players of the Rostock Seawolves start their first Bundesliga season at home against Ulm on Sunday (3 p.m.). Before the start, coach Christian Held (34) talks about…

…the Bundesliga premiere: “Everyone is hot. The players, staff and fans are all tingling. The preparation was longer than planned. After eleven friendlies and numerous training sessions, we are happy that things are finally starting.”

…the chances of staying up: “I can promise: We go into every game to win it. We can keep up. Perhaps the playing quality is higher in top teams like Berlin, Munich or Hamburg. But on a good day everything is in it. We have what it takes to be successful in the BBL.”

…the squad and the newcomers: “All four newcomers will help us. Derrick Alston Jr. scored highly in the test matches. Dennis Nawrocki had a knee injury for a long time, his use is questionable. The players from the promotion season also took a big step forward in the summer and embraced their new roles. I would not have expected that.”

…the first opponent: “Ulm plays in the Eurocup and is one of the absolute top teams that definitely want to make the play-offs again. As they have a lot of young players in their ranks and had a difficult preparation, they are difficult to assess. Every team still has a lot of work to do at the start of the season. We’re concentrating on our development and we want to play our game.”
