Ronny Deila disappointed with Standard’s performance: ‘More crosses, more presence, more fantasy’

Ronny Deila couldn’t offer his Ronny Roar after the game. And he came to the press conference with a fairly clear analysis of his team’s defeat. “We were punished for our mistakes”assured the Norwegian coach. “We had to create more, bring more centers, more presence in the rectangle, even more fantasy. But we did not know how to do it.”

And the punishment was immediate. “Goals conceded are always the consequence of an error, but on the second, we showed passivity. I have to review the goal, but it was too simple.” Deila, who could not yet give news of Dönnum, injured and replaced at half an hour, repeated that “against a team that is playing low, we have to do better in possession.”

Comment ? “By moving the ball better, getting more players into the opponent’s box, being more dangerous when winning the ball back.” Deila tried to modify her plan, with a system change and then replacements. But it was not enough.

“J’ai sorti Melegoni (at rest) because we had gone back to four behind and I had too many players in the middle, when I needed an extra winger (David). That’s why I made this change.” It was not a sanction, a priori, after a too average half-time.

At the other end of the table, José Jeunechamps was inevitably a happy coach. His players had just resumed in chorus Freed from Desire de Gala, in the locker room, and their coach praised their desire not to let go.

He particularly appreciated that“We gave Standard few chances. We were consistent defensively, and we didn’t take any risks when restarting, as we had requested”. The coach, when asked about this habit of winning on the move, had difficulty finding a rational explanation.

“I can’t find a reason. Maybe it’s the fact that our facilities aren’t top notch, that we haven’t had the opportunity to play a friendly match or even to train often enough in our own stadium (Editor’s note: the lawn must be preserved).”

One thing is certain, however: “It’s very good to win at Standard, but if it’s to lose against Oostende next week, it won’t be any use. I would finally like us to win at home.”

After a few days off, reward for the victory, the Seresians will be able to get back to work. Les Rouches too, in another register.
