Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD assessing the avoidance of responsibility between PT LIB, PSSI and Indosiar in responding to the tragedy Kanjuruhan Stadium Malang is proof that the Indonesian football league is running a bit chaotic.
“But that there is mutual avoidance of field operational responsibilities such as between LIB, PSSI, Panpel, and even Indosiar is proof that the organization of the league is a bit chaotic,” Mahfud said in his statement, Wednesday (12/10).
Mahfud said this condition endangered the world of football in Indonesia. Therefore, the Joint Independent Fact-Finding Team (TGIPF) will look for the root of the problem as material for developing recommendations in the future.
“The TGIPF recommendation has not yet been issued, it will still be discussed today,” he said.
On the other hand, Mahfud admitted that he had coordinated and crossed his findings with those of Komnas HAM. He estimated the possibility of Komnas HAM recommending something unique in accordance with its authority.
He stated that the TGIPF findings would not be announced until they were handed over to President Jokowi.
“Because TGIPF was formed with a Presidential Decree for the President’s purposes. TGIPF will submit a report to the President next Friday or Monday,” he said.
The tragedy at Kanjuruhan Stadium occurred on October 1, 2022 night after Arema FC’s match with Persebaya. At first, Arema supporters seemed to go down to the field area to look for players and officials after the end of the match.
The police responded by firing tear gas into the field and stadium stands. As a result, the audience ran in panic. A total of 132 Arema FC supporters died as a result of this tragedy.
