PSG stalls before the C1, Arsenal sinks Liverpool

PSG could not do better than a draw against Reims in Ligue 1 while Lorient took advantage of the defeat of Marseille to become the surprising runner-up in the French championship. In Spain, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are tied one week before the Clasico.

PSG at a standstill, Rennes, Lorient and Lille, masters of the derbies

Who will stop FC Lorient? The astonishing team of Régis Le Bris chained a sixth consecutive victory in L1, this time against its neighbor Brest, with a double from Terem Moffi (24e53e). Either the 7e et 8e goals this season from the Nigerian, who joins Parisian stars Kylian Mbappé and Neymar (8 goals) at the top of the scoring charts.

Here are the second Merlus (25 pts), only one length behind the leader PSG (26 pts), slowed down on Saturday evening in Reims (0-0), and two points ahead of Marseille (3e, 23 pts), which conceded its first defeat in this Ligue 1 on Saturday against Ajaccio (2-1). The two teams were hardly reassured before their respective C1 matches against Benfica Lisbon and Sporting Portugal.

As for Stade Rennais, it smashed its neighbor Nantes (19e of L1) in the other Breton derby, thanks to Amine Gouiri (26e), Martin Terrier (80e) and a clear shot from Désiré Doué (84e), even if Joe Rodon was excluded at the end of the match (88e). Bruno Genesio’s team is sixth (18 pts) before challenging Lyon next weekend (9e14 pts), who ousted his coach Peter Bosz on Sunday to replace him with Laurent Blanc, former coach of the Blues looking for a rebound.

Losc revived by beating Lens (1-0) and putting an end to the long series of invincibility of its great rival in the 116e Northern derby, at the end of the 10e L1 day. The Lille, who had lost the three derbies last season against the Lensois, set the record straight and stopped their enemy who remained on 17 games without defeat in the league. They go back to seventh place with 16 units on the clock, five lengths from the Artésiens.

Tied in the lead between Real Madrid and Barça before the clasico

One week away from a clasico at the top, Pedri carried FC Barcelona against Celta Vigo (1-0) on Sunday for the 8e day of La Liga, and puts Barça at the top of the standings in goal average ahead of Real Madrid (22 pts), winner 1-0 at Getafe on Saturday.

The Catalans took the lead early at Camp Nou thanks to a goal from their young midfielder (19), who took advantage of a rough clearance from Unai Nunez to push the ball into the empty net (17e), then withstood the many strikes of the Celta players at the end of the game, thanks to an impassable Marc-André ter Stegen.

Thanks to a great Angel Correa and an in-form Antoine Griezmann, Atlético Madrid struggled to beat Girona 2-1. It didn’t take long for the French “Little Prince” to show himself: from the 5e minute, Griezmann placed an offering at the far post on the foot of Angel Correa, who only had to push the ball into the cages to open the scoring. The Argentinian doubled the lead after returning from the locker room (48e) by intercepting a raise from Girona goalkeeper Juan Carlos.

For Griezmann, it is also a small rebirth: holder for the second game in a row, the French international had not been decisive in club for a month (a goal on September 7 during the 2-1 victory against Porto in C1). After a start to the season disrupted by the negotiations around the conditions of his loan to Atlético, which pushed his coach Diego Simeone to only play him for half an hour per game, “Grizou” proved to the Rojiblancos what he can bring as holder. He should also regain this status on a regular basis: the Spanish press has announced that an agreement has finally been reached between Atletico and Barça.

Union Berlin, alone in the lead

Union Berlin took the lead in the German Championship on their own thanks to their victory over Stuttgart (1-0) and Freiburg’s draw a little earlier against Hertha Berlin (2-2).

Union Berlin recovered well after their defeat in Frankfurt (2-0) the previous day. This sixth victory of the season (plus two draws and a defeat) allows the team of Swiss Urs Fischer to have a two-point lead over Friborg (5 v, 3 D, 1 D), and four over Bayern Munich ( 3e) and Dortmund (4e) who drew (2-2) on Saturday in the Ruhr during the “Klassiker”

AC Milan is reassured, Naples takes the lead

Naples stumbled on the Cremonese for a long time before knocking out the promoted at the end of the match (4-1) to regain the lead of Serie A alone by taking advantage of the points abandoned by Atalanta Bergamo (2nd) in Udine (2-2 ), Sunday during the 9th day. Still undefeated with seven wins and two draws, with the best attack in Serie A (22 goals) as in the Champions League (13 goals), Naples is the only leader with two points ahead of Atalanta and three over Udinese and AC Milan.

In Udine, Atalanta thought they had done the hardest part after Ademola Lookman’s two goals (36e) and Luis Muriel (56e on penalty), for the 300th match on the bench of his coach Gian Piero Gasperini. But the best defense in the championship gave way to the final revolt of Udinese. The Frioul players, who came from six consecutive victories, came back on a free kick from Gerard Deulofeu (67e) and a header from Nehuen Perez (78e).

AC Milan quickly regained morale after its slap against Chelsea (3-0) in the Champions League by logically dominating Juventus (2-0). The all-terrain pressing of the Rossoneri, with the returning captain Théo Hernandez, recovered from his injury which had deprived him of the matches of the Blues in September, sent Juve back to their limits, in the absence of Angel Di Maria, suspended.

The “Old Lady” (8e) is overtaken in the standings by Inter Milan (7th), victorious in Sassuolo (2-1) thanks to a double from Edin Dzeko.

Premier League: Haaland still inhuman, Arsenal still in the lead

By taking advantage of Liverpool’s defensive mistakes, Arsenal took over the lead of the Premier League from Manchester City on the 10th day and beat a new rival, a week after Tottenham (3-1).

With 24 points, the Gunners are back in front of the defending champions for a length, while Liverpool, with ten points in eight games, one less than Arsenal, already seems irremediably left behind in the title race.

Behind the Gunners, Pep Guardiola’s men had yet again made the powder speak: Manchester City crushed Southampton (4-0) and again saw their magic Haaland-Foden duo be decisive.

In third place on the podium, Tottenham reassured themselves with a victory at Brighton (1-0) while Chelsea (4e) confirmed his return to form by easily beating Wolverhampton (3-0).
