President Asks Police to Continue Investigation of Kanjuruhan to Other Parties

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md stated that the Kanjuruhan tragedy was more terrible than what was viral on social media. Mahfud said President Jokowi asked the National Police to continue the investigation related to the Kanjuruhan tragedy.

“We give a final note, which was underlined by the President, the National Police to continue criminal investigations against other people who are also strongly suspected of being involved and must be held criminally responsible in this case,” Mahfud said during a press conference at his office, Friday. (14/10/2022).

Mahfud said the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF) found findings that could be explored. Mahfud invited the Police to explore the findings.

“The TGIPF has many indications that the Police can investigate it,” he said.

“As for the moral responsibility, everyone is welcome to take the steps taken as a form of accountability for civilized Indonesian people,” he continued.

Previously, Mahfud said that his party had pocketed evidence in the form of CCTV footage of the Kanjuruhan tragedy. Mahfud stated that the Kanjuruhan tragedy was more terrible than what was shown on social media.

“The fact that we found, the victims who fell, the process of falling victims was far more terrible than what was circulating on TV and social media, because we reconstructed from 32 CCTVs owned by the authorities,” Mahfud said earlier.

Mahfud said, in CCTV footage, the Kanjuruhan tragedy was not only about spraying tear gas. But also about the jostling going on in the stadium.

“So it’s more terrible than just spray kill, spray kill like that. Some are holding hands to get out together, one can get out, one is left behind, those outside come back again to help their friend who was trampled to death,” he said.
