Police Checks CCTV Recordings for 3 Hours at Kanjuruhan Stadium which were deleted

Jakarta

The Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF) of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy revealed that CCTV footage at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, East Java, was deleted. The police will investigate the deletion of the 3-hour CCTV footage.

The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, said that investigators would check and investigate the deletion of the 3-hour CCTV footage at the Kanjuruhan Stadium. Later, the investigators will also determine whether or not there is an obstruction of justice element.

“Later, investigators will check and investigate,” said Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo to reporters, Wednesday (19/10/2022).

Previously, the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF) for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy found that CCTV footage at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java, had been deleted. The deleted footage came from CCTV in the main lobby and parking area with a duration of 3 hours 21 minutes.

This finding was revealed in the TGIPF Kanjuruhan Tragedy report submitted to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) last Friday (14/10). TGIPF said that initially CCTV recorded the movement of the Barracuda series who were going to evacuate the Persebaya Team.

“The initial movement of the Barracuda series, which will evacuate the Persebaya Team, can be recorded via CCTV in the main lobby and parking area,” said TGIPF’s findings as seen on Monday (17/10/2022).

However, the CCTV only shows footage with a duration of 1 hour and 21 minutes. Meanwhile, continued TGIPF, the next 3 hours 21 minutes duration was lost.

“But the CCTV footage starting at 22.21.30 can be recorded with a duration of 1 hour 21 minutes, and then the recording is lost (deleted) for 3 hours, 21 minutes, 54 seconds, then the recording reappears for 15 minutes,” continued TGIPF.

TGIPF stated that the loss of the duration of the recording hindered their task of revealing the truth about the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium that killed 132 people.

TGIPF also admitted that they are trying to request a complete recording from the Police.

“The loss of the duration of the CCTV footage makes it difficult or hinders the task of the TGIPF team to find out the facts that actually happened and efforts are being made to request a complete recording from the National Police Headquarters,” wrote TGIPF.
