Second seed Paula Badosa lost again (7-6, 6-4) in the first match in a tournament beaten by Czech Petra Kvitova in the second round of the tournament in Ostrava. The world number four, winner of the Sydney tournament, fell in the Czech event just as she did in Tokyo, Cincinnati and Toronto. Of the last four competitions he played before Ostrava, only in the US Open did he manage to win on debut.
