Osvaldo Echeverriathe great trainer of players and coaches in Mar del Plata basketball, passed away this Friday and his loss caused deep pain in the local sports environment.

Echeverría transcended the borders of the city for being the creator of Facundo Campazzo in the youth divisions Penarolclub in which he worked for the last 20 years.

Before that, he spent another 26 years in Kimberley. The two most important coaches from Mar del Plata in the National League were forged under his wisdom: Leandro Ramella and Guillermo Narvarte They adopted his ideas.

As did players who made it to the National Team. Marcos Mata, Selem Safar, Diego Cavaco and Franco Giorgeti They also trained with “Negro” Echeverría.

Although Osvaldo left an indelible mark in his role as a basketball teacher, he also credits some successes directing top teams to his record.

In the National League he had a couple of steps as interim in Peñarol (91/92 and 2004).

With Kimberley, in the WBA, he won six titles in a row between 1981 and 1984 (three Preparation and three Officials).

He was also the coach of the Mar del Plata team that won its first provincial title in 1982, an achievement that will be 40 years old in December.

Osvaldo had been fighting cancer since 2019. His departure will leave a void that is difficult to fill in basketball in the city.
