OM: initially decried, the Tudor method proves its worth

After criticism and internal friction following a hectic summer preparation, coach Igor Tudor obtained good results on the bench of Olympique de Marseille. Ready to shake up his players, the Croatian technician has succeeded in imposing his method.

Igor Tudor obtains positive results at OM.

It seems a long time ago when the Stade Vlodrome public jeered coach Igor Tudor before Reims (4-1) received on the first day of Ligue 1. Appointed last summer after the surprise departure of Jorge Sampaoli, the technician Croatian was almost unanimous, against him, his debut at Olympique de Marseille.

Between very disappointing results during the friendlies and internal friction because of his functioning, the ex-coach of Hellas Vrone had experienced a chaotic preparation.

OM are doing very well

And yet, almost two months after the official start of this exercise, Tudor has already succeeded in convincing everyone! His record in Ligue 1 is close to perfection with 7 wins and 2 draws, and his team, after 2 frustrating defeats against Tottenham (0-2) and Frankfurt (0-1), managed to relaunch in the Champions League on Tuesday with success against Sporting Portugal (4-1). At the time of taking stock, it is therefore quite simply excellent from an accounting point of view.

And even in the game, the native of Split managed to impose his philosophy on this formation. While its precepts seemed very vague during the preparation, OM, little by little, had the desired face: a fast game, carried forward, which relies heavily on projections from the side and transitions. A tactic that works perfectly in L1 where Marseille ranks among the best in attack (3rd equality) and defense (1st equality).

A method approved by Baup

And to impose his ideas, Tudor was clearly not afraid to shake up his wardrobe. Not to mention the clashes with Gerson, Cengiz nder or even Matto Guendouzi this summer, the Croatian above all had the guts to shake up the status of certain executives. We can think of the Brazilian, the Turkish and especially Dimitri Payet, who have integrated the rotation with passages on the bench.

The collective dynamic is good, the coach has the support of the players and the results validate his ideas. A guy like Sanchez pulls everyone in his wake. You feel that he still believes in it. The others get in tune and those who don’t want to run leave the team, analyzed former OM coach Elie Baup for the regional daily La Provence on Thursday. And for the moment, the whole OM is marching under the orders of Commander Tudor.
