No panic in Paris, even at 0-3: “We are here to build something concrete”

While its workforce should allow it to aim for the first places, Paris Basketball is currently stuck at the bottom of the Betclic ELITE rankings, fanny during its first three outings. But the time is not for panic on the Halle Carpentier side, as expressed by coach Will Weaver and rookie Tyrone Wallace.

This Wednesday evening, Paris Basketball had an unexpected opportunity to win its first official match of the season by hosting Boulogne-sur-Mer, resident of Nationale 1, in the Coupe de France but SOMB forfeited. As a result, the Ile-de-France team will spend the week brooding over its failed start. With a coach who still does not have the right to ply his trade on the bench, the Parisians have lost their first three games: two initial defeats far from being infamous on the road, in Bourg-en-Bresse ( 99-102, ap) and Nanterre (82-97), even if they should have folded the match at Ékinox, before a third more problematic setback, at home against the promoted Blois (99-104). But like Le Portel, another club at 0-3, Paris Basketball does not give in to urgency.

Will Weaver : “During the week before the Blois game, I told the guys that we were disappointed to be 0-2. Now we are obviously super disappointed to be 0-3. But the truth is that none of us are here to be 3-0 down, and everyone already knows our little tricks and struggles. We’re here to build something concrete, and you don’t build something lasting over several centuries by rushing pieces together (he smiles). We have chosen a game philosophy that should, we think, bear fruit by the end of the season by making life difficult for our opponents on both sides of the field. But right now, we have to wait for good things to happen, and trust that they will. This will only be possible if we continue to work and support each other. »

Tyrone Wallace : “We have to attack each day with the desire to become better. In each of our games, we’re right there… In Bourg, we had a tough third quarter and we ended up losing in overtime. In Nanterre, we came back from quite a distance at the end until -5. Against Blois, we were in the lead in the first half before letting go again in the third quarter, but it was close until the end. We are in the game, we are doing good things. We have to improve a lot of little details: stray balls, free throws, all those little things that win games… Also, it doesn’t help that our coach doesn’t have the right to coach. It’s a real problem. In these tense end of matches, we need this presence, someone who can bring the team together, who can call the right systems. We miss not having our coach. »
