Nacer Chadli left Turkey for Westerlo in search of playing minutes for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Time is running out to win the favor of national team coach Roberto Martinez, but his first goal can always help.
“I was waiting for it”, laughed Chadli after Westerlo’s victory against Zulte Waregem. “It’s always great to score for your new team and to win games.”
The World Cup starts in Qatar next month. Is Chadli thinking of a selection? “I now think it’s important to be back on the field, to find the fun again and to be able to play without pain. I can do that here in Westerlo, we’ll see the rest.”
“I feel better and better, but I still have a lot to show for a World Cup selection.” The World Cup in Qatar starts on November 20 with the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador. The Red Devils will play their first game at the World Cup on Wednesday, November 23, with Canada being the opponent.
