Monaco and Rennes fill up, not Nantes

Two of the three French clubs involved in C3 won this Thursday, Monaco and Rennes. Not Nantes, beaten in Germany. Nice also won, in C4.

Monaco, winner of Trabzonspor (3-1) in the Europa League, showed the way to Rennes, victorious over Dynamo kyiv (2-1) at the end of the suspense, but not to FC Nantes who fell in Friborg (2-0) , while Nice won in the Europa League Conference.

This 3rd day of C3 started well for ASM because Maxi Gomez, the center forward of the Turks, was sent off in the 12th minute for a kick in the face of Mohamed Camara. At 11 against 10, then 1-0 thanks to a nice flick from Ben Yedder in the area (14th), it was off to a good start and it continued with a penalty from the same Ben Yedder (45th + 2) just before returning to the changing room. A third goal from Disasi (55th) definitely calmed the Turkish enthusiasm but Trabzonspor still saved the honor through Bakasetas (72nd). It’s a good deal for Monaco because during this time Red Star Belgrade dominated Ferencvaros (4-1), who beat Monaco in September.

Rennes at the end of the suspense

In the second part of the evening, in a boiling Roazhon Park, Rennes beat Dynamo kyiv (2-1) thanks to a goal full of control from the young Désiré Doué, 17, trained in Brittany, in the 89th minute. Terrier had opened the scoring (23rd) but ten minutes later Tsygankov equalized. The Ukrainians then closed ranks and repelled all Rennes’ offensives, until this disastrous recovery which allowed Doué, the well-named, to steal the ball to go and score, all alone like a grown-up, the goal of a crucial victory.

Nantes didn’t do as well, after a good first half, as the Canaries let Freiburg score twice after the break. First by Kyereh (48th), the best player in the surprising 2nd in the Bundesliga, then by Grifo (72nd), left all alone by the Nantes defense, who quietly adjusted Lafont (72nd).

Manchester get scared

One of the headliners of this European evening was called Manchester United. The Red Devils got scared in Nicosia, when the modest club from Omonia led 1-0 after half an hour. It took a double from Rashford (53rd, 84th), added to a goal from Martial (63rd), to reassure Erik Ten Hag’s men. On the other hand, Arsenal, leader of the Premier League, had no difficulty in beating, in London, the Norwegians of Bodo Glimt (3-0). PSV Eindhoven crushed FC Zürich (5-1), in Switzerland, and Real Sociedad went to win on the lawn of Sheriff Tiraspol (2-0).

A good poster concerned AS Roma of José Mourinho who opened the scoring by Dybala (34th), on penalty, at Betis Sevilla who equalized by Rodriguez (40th). We were heading for a draw when Luiz Henrique (88th) tipped the match (2-1) in favor of the Spaniards. For the record, the match won by Union Berlin on the Swedish side of Malmöe (1-0) was interrupted for half an hour by jets of pyrotechnic devices, but no player or spectator was injured. .
