Menpora Denies Aremania’s Claims About Data on Victims of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy

Malang, CNN Indonesia

Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI Zainuddin Amali denied the statement of the group of supporters Aremania who suspect the fatality data the tragedy of Kanjuruhan reach 200 people.

Zainudin Amali stated that all parties should adhere to the official government data which until now mentions 125 people died in the Kanjuruhan tragedy. According to him, the data could not have been manipulated by the government because if that happened, the victim’s family would have protested.

“No, it’s impossible. It’s easy if something is not included in the data, the family will definitely scream,” said Zainudin at the dr Saiful Anwar Hospital, Tuesday (4/10).

The data, he said, was taken from hospitals in Malang Raya which received referrals for victims after the incident. The validity of the data must have been tested.

“And hospitals, doctors, are risking their credibility. Now is the era of transparency. I think we should just hold on to data from the government for 125 people. And that’s a recapitulation,” said Amali.

He said, if there is additional data then it will definitely be recorded. Moreover, regents and mayors around Malang have been asked to register their citizens if there are victims.

“If there is data, it will definitely appear, and yesterday the regent and mayor had been asked to list the citizens,” he said.

“I beg you to wait for the results of the work of the Joint Independent Fact-Finding Team (TGIPF) don’t make assumptions first. So you don’t get confused,” he said.

On the other hand, Arema or Aremania fan groups recorded a higher number of victims than those released by the police or the government.

Aremania said many deaths were not recorded because the deceased were immediately brought home by their families and friends after the incident and did not have time to be taken to the hospital.

One of Aremania’s representatives, Dadang Indarto, said that from the initial findings of his organization, the number of victims who died in the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy could be more than 200 people.

“If the data released by the government is currently 125 deaths, we estimate it is more. According to our estimate, it will be above 200,” said Dadang in Malang, Monday (3/10).

Dadang said the estimated figure was an initial finding after his party received information from Aremania Malang Raya and its surroundings.

On this basis, Aremania also formed an independent fact-finding team, tasked with collecting data on deaths of victims from all over the region.

“We formed the Aremania Fact Finding Team, we will synchronize it later. We will communicate between regions not only in Malang Raya. From Banyuwangi, Madiun, Pasuruan, Blitar, Kediri and Jombang,” he said.
