Medvedev: “I want to beat everyone, but especially Nadal”

After a strange season for both, in which they have been forced to spend more time off the track than desired, Novak Djokovic y Daniil Medvedev tomorrow they cross their paths in the ATP 500 of Astana in which it could be described as an early final. Both reach the semifinal in great form and without having dropped a single set in the Kazakh tournament.

Today, the Russian tennis player, current number 4 in the ranking ATP, finished with Roberto Bautista in a match that lasted just over an hour. Although he suffered a counter-break in the second set, Daniil prevailed decisively against the Spaniard. Tomorrow will be another story for Medvedev, who has not met Nole on a tennis court since Paris Masters 1000 from last season, a match in which Djokovic recovered from the first set to end up coming back. The Russian, happy with today’s victory against Bautista, is now preparing for his duel against Novak, although there is someone he especially wants to beat, as Daniil confessed in statements collected by the official ATP website and by Express.

Happy for Astana’s quarterfinal win

“I’m happy to play the right way, to be solid and to do my best to make life difficult for him. I’m happy I won him. I have tried to vary my shots, since it is not easy to play against Roberto. I tried to surprise him and he has gone well, ”explained the Russian.

Next opponent: Novak Djokovic

“I am very happy to play against Novak. I thought about it before the match and we’ve only met in one tournament this year and it was Roland Garros, so this is the second. I feel like it’s not a bad rivalry. Of course, it’s not close to what Novak has with Roger Federer or Rafa Nadal, but still, I need to do my best tomorrow. I want to beat everyone and, in fact, Rafa even more because I have lost two Grand Slam finals against him”.
