Martincová – Teichmannová 7:6, 7:6, Incredible turnaround, Martincová celebrates progress! Kvitová is also happy about the victory

The 32-year-old Kvitová, who confirmed her start in Ostrava last week due to health problems and is playing thanks to a wild card, defeated Pera in more than two hours. In the duel with this year’s winner of two WTA tournaments, she was helped by 11 aces.

“It’s a very valuable victory. Last weekend I was lying in bed at home with a sore throat and decided to start only on Wednesday. I couldn’t do it physically. The surface was slow, it was challenging and Bernarda didn’t give me the chance to go any further . Fortunately, in the third set, my serve came and helped me. It was up, down. In the final, I don’t even really know how I won, but history doesn’t ask that,” Kvitová said at the press conference.

She had an excellent start against Barbora Palicová and Nikola Bartůňková from the qualifiers, and thanks to two breaks, she took the lead 5:0 in the first set. The 20th player in the world complicated the end and at 5:3 turned away two break points, but endured the unpleasant moments. She won the first set in 43 minutes.

Pera improved in the second set and Kvitova paid for unforced errors. The Czech lost four games in a row from 2:2, and the native from Zadar tied the match.

Kvitová started the deciding set with a lost serve and was losing 0:2. With the loud support of the home fans, however, she managed to “break” her opponent three times and ended the duel with an ace. In the round of 16, Badosa can avenge her elimination from this year’s Wimbledon.

Viewers can watch live broadcasts on the O2 TV Sport station and in multi-dimensions on O2 TV Tennis. From Friday, the final duels will be accompanied by a special studio led by Klára Janáčková and Libor Basík. In addition to the presenters, the O2 TV Tennis commentary team will also include Jakub Vančura and Martin Štefl.

Twenty-seven-year-old Martincová beat Teichmannová in the second match between them as well. In the first set, the Prague native was not defeated by a 1:5 deficit. Thanks to five games won in a row, Martincová forced a shortened game and triumphed clearly 7:1.

In the second set, the 78th player in the world managed to get two breaks and was able to complete the duel at 6:5. But Teichmann didn’t give up, leveled and averted three match points in a shortened game. At the fourth, she already sent the ball into the net. Martincová is thus still cherishing the chance to defend last year’s quarter-final.
