The Senegalese Basketball Federation has withdrawn the number 15 worn by Mame Maty Mbengue in the women’s national team.
“This historic decision is an honorary act to magnify the exceptional career of Mame Maty Mbengue and further anchor his memory in the history of Senegalese basketball,” informs the Senegalese Basketball Federation.
Mame Maty Mbengue has joined the big family of FIBA Hall of Fame. A mark of recognition for this lady who gave everything to sport and basketball. On the courts of Africa and the world, she charmingly wore bib number 15 of the national women’s basketball team.
The player’s record is more than glowing: five times gold medalist at the Afrobasket (1984, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2001), twice gold medalist at the African Games (1995, 1999), 3 times MVP of Afrobasket (1993, 1997, 2000), gold medalist at the Games of La Francophonie in 1997. Queen of Basketball in 1990, she was elected player of the FIBA Africa Fiftieth Anniversary.
