The Italian national basketball team has won the title of absolute world champion for the third time in a row, while the Italian national judo team has grabbed the second step of the world podium. Davide Migliore (ASD Special Boys – Palermo), top athlete of the Sicilian delegationbecame world champion on tatami in the -60 kg category.

Emotions, enthusiasm and adrenaline have made the Portuguese experience of the Italian basketball and judo Fisdir national teams a real triumph. To represent Fisdir Sicily, Davide Migliorethe spearhead of Sicilian judo in the world, trained by the masters Joshua e Rosolino Giglio e Francesco Paolo Bondi and accompanied by the first and the doctor Vito Giuseppe Adamowho won an extraordinary gold with a performance of the highest competitive and technical level: “Davide was the protagonist of the most exciting matches of the whole championship – reported the regional and national technical representative Giosuè Giglio – with really important competitive level performances also recognized by the athletes and technicians of the challenging countries”.

Best, an athlete with many years of experience, he faced two races where he was able to distinguish himself through specific technical actions and movements and both matches were won, respectively, for ippon (maximum score) with a single technical gesture (the tani otoshi or “fall into the valley”) the first and with two keep up the spirit (half a point each which together give ippon) the second: “Davide, in the first match, managed to throw the opponent – explained Giglio – pinning it completely on the tatami. In the second, however, he had to work a little harder as he was faced with a very fierce and more experienced opponent against whom he fought for almost 3 minutes, triumphing with a due waza ari and a o soto gari (or “great outer swath”). In both races, Davide proved confident, prepared and determined – concluded Giglio – and he listened to the letter to my screams and my advice I gave him from the tatami mat: an unprecedented pride, ours and that of the other national coaches Paola Baroncelli and Chiara Meucci”.
