Difficult to find a parking space near the Chantereine gymnasium in Criel-sur-Mer (Seine Maritime), Saturday, October 1. The reason ? The 19th edition of the traditional Eurojudo of the Criel-sur-Mer judo club. The gymnasium was full of people, with more than 180 judokas, young and old, who walked the tatami on Saturday afternoon.
Amateurs, sports enthusiasts and just the curious came to see it up close and take advantage of the advice of the bronze medalist of the last Tokyo Olympics and silver medalist at the European Championships of the same year, Port of Mkheidze. And despite this impressive track record, he played the game perfectly on Saturday during the technical courses he hosted.
And this is not the first time he has come to Criel-sur-Mer. The adopted Le Havre came “on an internship when he was a cadet”, remembers Luc Crette, judo teacher at the Criel club. “At the time, I thought he was doing very good judo, with a lot of willpower. He already noticed a lot with a belle attitude “. But this weekend, it is in the shoes of a professor that he returned to the seaside resort.
Transmit your experience
An experience he has already had in the past and especially after his medal at the Olympic Games. “For me it is very important to transmit my experience “says the athlete. “To reach this level, it is thanks to the judokas, to the other champions who have done this kind of thing. That is what inspired mewhich made me want to do judo and I find that I have been given a lot so it is normal that I also give back to young people and future champions”.
And besides, for these young shoots to become champions, Luka Mkheidze does not hesitate to give them some advice.
Don’t worry, it’s just sport. To reach the top level, you have to put all the chances on your side. There will inevitably be difficult moments, failures, but it is in these moments when we must not give up and where we must continue despite the obstacles.
The obstacles, he knows. Native Tbilisi, Georgiathe young judoka from 26 ans left his country only 12 ans to flee the war. It was in 2010 that he arrived in France as a political refugee. 5 years later he obtained French nationality.
It was a great day for the children but also for the adults who were able to benefit from valuable advice from a French champion.
