List of dropouts for World Cup football grows: Diogo Jota (Portugal) also drops out injured | World Cup 2022

Liverpool striker Diogo Jota had to leave the field on a stretcher in the final phase of the top match against Manchester City. Two days later, the hard verdict for the Portuguese is in. Jürgen Klopp was the messenger on duty.

“It’s a pretty serious injury in his calf muscle. Yes, he will miss the World Cup. Very sad news for him, for us and also for Portgual.”

Klopp did not want to put a length of time on his return, but speaks of “a very long time”.

Jota, 25, has played 29 times in his career for Portugal, scoring 10 goals. “He took the news astonishingly well. He’s a smart boy. When he was carried off the field, he already knew.”

Jota himself wrote on Twitter that “his dream has been shattered”.
