LSFP announces a competition for sports scholarships

The Council of Latvian Sports Federations (LSFP) invites interested parties to apply for the state-funded Sports Scholarships 2022/2023 by October 20, 2022. for the school year. The purpose of awarding the sports scholarship is to promote the opportunities of high-class student athletes to combine studies with the development of sportsmanship, popularizing student sports and promoting the preparation of reserves for Latvian national teams.

Until October 20, Latvian national team members and candidates studying in bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral programs are invited to apply for the Sports Scholarship announced by the Sports Ministry. Latvian national team members and candidates who successfully study at universities in European Union countries can apply for the scholarship.

According to LSFP, the criteria of the competition are applicants’ success in a higher education institution and achievements in sports. The scholarship is awarded to those applicants who, according to the competition criteria, have obtained the highest number of points. The maximum amount of the Sports scholarship is 2,000 euros for one academic year.

Applicants’ applications will be evaluated by the Sports Scholarship Commission, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Latvian Olympic Committee, the Sports Union of Latvian Universities and the Council of Latvian Sports Federations.

Similar to previous years, the competition will evaluate the sports achievements of the applicants for the period of two school years (2020/2021 and 2021/2022).

Application procedure

In order to apply for the Sports scholarship competition, the applicant must submit the documents specified in Clause 5 of the Competition Regulations (available below) to the LSFP Sports Scholarship Commission by October 20, 2022. Documents can be submitted:

• By sending to LSFP official e-mail [email protected], signed with a secure electronic signature *

• By sending by mail to the LSFP office address – Grostonas iela 6B, Riga, LV-1013;

• In person at the LSFP office, Riga, Grostonas Street 6B (Rimi Olympic Center), room 310, on working days from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

* When submitting documents signed with a secure electronic signature, the list of sporting achievements must be electronically signed by both the applicant and the relevant sports federation.

** If the list of sports achievements for achievements from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021 has already been submitted to LSFP as part of the 2021 competition, then it does not need to be submitted again.
