Kuijt avoids ADO dressing room after loss: ‘Don’t say things I regret’ | Football

Dirk Kuijt needed some time on Friday evening to relax after the defeat of ADO Den Haag at Helmond Sport. The trainer was “disappointed and angry” and accused his team of a lack of effort.

“I was so disappointed and angry that I chose not to go into the dressing room for a while. I wanted to recover so as not to say things that I will regret later,” said 42-year-old Kuijt in conversation with ESPN.

Kuijt and ADO suffered their sixth loss of the season against Helmond Sport. The people of The Hague fell behind the number nineteen of the Kitchen Champion Division in the fourth minute by a goal from Hakon Lorentzen.

“You will not win matches on quality and technique without commitment”, said a frustrated Kuijt. “The boys know that too. We have been hammering on that all week. But then you start a match like this. Then that is very frustrating.”

Shortly after the break, ADO managed to equalize via Denzel Hall, but in the end the team of the 104-time international was left empty-handed. Martijn Kaars signed in the 66th minute for the winning goal on behalf of the home team in Helmond.

“It makes no sense to start yelling at each other now and express frustrations out of emotions,” Kuijt responded. “It is now about how we can ensure that this does not happen to us again. We are going to work hard on that.”

ADO remains at fifteen points due to the new defeat. The residents of The Hague are therefore in seventeenth place. The next match of ADO is next Friday against VVV-Venlo.
