Judo – just missed victory – the joy still prevailed

At the state championships in Weiz, Julia Sommer (57 kilos) and Leonie Buchas (63 kilos) were also represented by two athletes from the Judo Jennersdorf club. So one had calculated countable, which one of the two actors should also create.

For newcomer Leonie Buchas, things didn’t quite go according to plan, because they were eliminated in lap one. Nevertheless, it was seen as a good empirical value for further competitions at this level.

Sudden final-off

Meanwhile, Julia Sommer arrived as the defending champion, which fueled certain expectations. The first fights went as expected and she lived up to her role as a favourite. In the final she faced Verena Hiden from Styria.

The woman from Leibnitz was there immediately, caught Sommer at an unfavorable moment and suddenly sent her to the mat. So the fight didn’t last long and Sommer had to make friends with Silber.

“I was already sad and depressed because I would have liked to have defended my title from the previous year. In the meantime, however, I am also happy about silver. I’m grateful that so many people are behind me,” she said, before immediately traveling to Malaga, where a European Cup is taking place. “The defeat in the final was bitter, but the goal is a medal at international level anyway.”
