Jokowi’s Response to the Threat of Shin Tae-yong Resigning from the Indonesian National Team

KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) responded to Shin Tae-yong’s statement that he was ready to step down as head coach of the Indonesian national team.

Shin Tae-yong made the statement following an insistence on PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan to step down as a form of responsibility for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy that killed more than 100 people on October 1, 2022.

The attitude of Shin Tae-yong has reached President Jokowi’s ears. However, President Jokowi refused to comment further.

The number one person in Indonesia is focused on waiting for the report on the results of the investigation by the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team (TGIPF) of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.

“The report from TGIPF has not yet. So, it hasn’t gone anywhere yet. Don’t go anywhere just yet, the report has not yet,” said President Jokowi, quoted from Between.

Regarding the results of the TGIPF investigation, President Jokowi said that the report would only be given this morning.

“The TGIPF team will report it to me tomorrow morning. It will only be tomorrow morning, so I can only convey it tomorrow afternoon,” said President Jokowi, Thursday (13/10/2022).

Meanwhile, Shin Tae-yong stated that he would resign as coach of the Indonesian national team if PSSI General Chair Mochamad Iriawan resigned from his position.

This was conveyed by Shin Tae-yong through his upload on Instagram on Wednesday (12/10/2022) which received the support of a number of Indonesian national team players.

In his upload, Shin Tae-yong feels he is partly responsible because he is part of PSSI.

Shin Tae-yong’s statement sparked mixed reactions from netizens. Shin Tae-yong’s attitude was considered disrespectful to the victims of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy until the hashtag #STYOut appeared on social media.

Meanwhile, the assistant coach of the Indonesian national team, Nova Arianto, emphasized that there was no pressure from any party on Shin Tae-yong.
