Jokowi Sends Special Letter to FIFA President, What’s in it?

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) delivered a special letter to FIFA President Gianni Infantino through SOE Minister Erick Thohir. What’s in it?

The information was known through Erick Thohir’s Instagram post as quoted on Thursday (6/10/2022). Erick also conveyed greetings from Jokowi to Gianni Infantino.

“On this occasion, I also conveyed greetings and a special letter from President Joko Widodo to the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino,” Erick wrote on his Instagram.

When meeting with Gianni Infantino, Erick Thohir received his condolences for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. Erick also discussed football as the most popular sport contributing to the progress of the nation.

“We also discussed many things for the advancement of football in the future, especially Indonesia,” said Erick.

“With consideration of the potential, popularity, and development of football in Indonesia, as well as being associated with constant national economic growth, a large market, and stable socio-political conditions, the international football organization is also ready to provide maximum support,” continued Erick.

Jokowi Calls FIFA President

Jokowi had also called Gianni Infantino a few days ago. Jokowi and Gianni Infantino talked a lot about the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.

“On Monday night I made a direct phone call, spoke directly with FIFA President President Infantino, talked a lot about the tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang,” said Jokowi after the TNI Anniversary ceremony in front of the Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/10).

Jokowi said he discussed U-20 football. He left completely to FIFA regarding any decisions after the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.

“And also talking about FIFA U-20 talks a lot, but any decision is the authority of FIFA,” said Jokowi.
