Indonesian National Team U-17 claimed to still be able to qualify for the final round Asian Cup U-17 2023 after losing 1-5 to Malaysia at the Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Sunday (9/10).
The defeat to Malaysia made Indonesia fail to reach the final round of the U-17 Asian Cup 2023. A score of 1-5 made the Bima Sakti team only able to rank seventh in the best runner-up standings.
The Indonesian U-17 national team lost on goal difference to Laos, who was ranked sixth which is the last position for the best runner-up and qualified for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup finals.

However, the chance for Indonesia to qualify for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup claimed by the Vietnamese media, The Thao 247, still exists. The biggest chance for Indonesia to qualify for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup is to host it.
“Indonesia’s hopes of participating in the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup suddenly rekindled after the latest announcement from the AFC. In particular, Indonesia will be given a special opportunity to participate in the continental arena if they can win the right to host,” wrote the statement. The Thao 247.
The AFC has yet to determine a new host after Bahrain decided to withdraw. Previously, the AFC made the decision to add to the list of qualified teams through the best runners-up from five to six representatives.
Until now the AFC has not confirmed the host. The Thao 247 claims that if none of the 16 qualified teams volunteer to host a replacement for Bahrain, then the AFC will appoint a new host outside the 16 teams.
If Indonesia wants to volunteer to be the host, it is claimed that the AFC will sacrifice the lowest team in the best runner-up standings and replace it with Indonesia.
“But if the 16 countries don’t register, another country will host [misalnya Indonesia], then that country’s team will replace one of the 16 qualified teams. Most likely it is Laos U-17 which is the team ranked sixth in the best runners-up standings,” wrote the Vietnamese media.
PSSI’s opportunity to volunteer to host the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup is relatively small. Because Indonesia has been confirmed to host the 2023 U-20 World Cup which will be held from May 20 to June 11 next year.
The 2023 U-17 Asian Cup is scheduled to take place on 3-20 May 2023. In addition, Indonesia is also bidding to host the 2023 Asian Cup on 16 June-16 July 2023.
