Indonesia failed to qualify for the U-17 Asian Cup, Markus Horison was brought in

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Netizens are busy talking about assistant coach Markus Horizon after Indonesian National Team U-17 failed to step into the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup.

The Indonesian U-17 national team failed to qualify because they failed to compete in the race for the best runner-up ticket. The cause of this failure was because Arkhan Kaka Putra and his friends were defeated 1-5 from Malaysia in the last match at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor, Sunday (9/10) night WIB.

Bima Sakti’s squad had to settle for only occupying the seventh position in the best runner-up standings. This position is not enough for Garuda Asia because only the six best runners-up are entitled to accompany the 10 winners of the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup Qualification group.

The inability of the U-17 Indonesian National Team to step into the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup was widely discussed by netizens. The discussion leads to Markus Horizon.

The name of the former Indonesian national team goalkeeper was brought up in connection with his remarks which had gone viral when the U-16 Indonesian national team won the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup. At that time, Markus and another assistant coach shouted the words ‘local pride champion‘ in celebration of the champions.

“Dear Markus Horison. Is it still local,” wrote a netizen.

“The wrong thing is still Markus Horizon,” another netizen tweeted.

Local shake prettttt Markus Horizon.”

“Where is Markus Horison and the person next to him who said ‘history of local pride history,” another netizen tweeted.

This failure made the Indonesian U-17 national team unable to follow in the footsteps of the four Southeast Asian representatives who qualified for the 2023 U-17 Asian Cup. The four teams were Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos.
