Shin Tae Yong said he would resign as coach of the Indonesian national team if he Mochamad Iriawan resigned as General Chairperson of PSSI following pressure from the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.
The Kanjuruhan tragedy that broke out after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya Surabaya match in Liga 1 on October 1 killed 132 people, most of whom were Arema fans.
As a result of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, Iriawan, who is familiarly called Iwan Bule and other PSSI administrators, were urged to resign by many parties because they were responsible for the unfortunate incident.
Iwan Bule’s request to resign from the chairman of PSSI reached Shin Tae Yong’s ears. The South Korean coach also made a surprising statement by going to resign as coach of the Indonesian national team if Iriawan resigned as chairman of PSSI.
“Someone who really loves Indonesian football with sincerity and gives full support from behind so that football can develop is the General Chair of PSSI,” said Shin Tae Yong in an Instagram post.
“In my opinion, if the General Chairperson of PSSI must be responsible for everything that happened and resign, then I must resign,” said Shin Tae Yong added.

Shin Tae Yong reasoned, as a team he felt responsible for the cooperation that was established with PSSI.
“Because I think if there are mistakes from co-workers who work together as a team, then I also have the same mistakes,” said Shin Tae Yong.
In the eyes of the 52-year-old coach, the success of the Indonesian national team so far cannot be separated from the role of Mochamad Iriawan as PSSI Chairman.
