Hidalgo, fertile for judokas so far in the millennium – El Sol de Hidalgo

With international medals, national teams and a promising future, Hidalgo receives this October 28 another commemoration of World Judo Day.

In an interview with El Sol de Hidalgo, Moisés Herbert, a coach from Hidalgo who currently directs in Guanajuato, explained that the entity’s judo has much to celebrate on this day, since the state’s contribution has been extremely generous.

“I have been in this for 30 years, and we managed to have two athletes in the Olympic Games, the two-time champion of the Deaflympics Games is also from Hidalgo, we have placed athletes in the Pan American Games. I think we have a lot to celebrate,” she detailed.

Likewise, he noted that the first steps throughout these 22 years were complicated to make an association, but later it materialized and he noticed the fruits when the international podiums began.

In addition, Verónica González Pasten, leader of the Association of Judokas Hidalguenses, agreed that the entity has contributed greatly to this sport at the national level, although she noted that the generational change has cost in recent years.

The above, due to the fact that many prospects stopped attending training after the pandemic.

“In all sports it is like that, either you get a Nabor Castillo, or you get a child who at 9 years old no longer wants to continue. But this is about passion, and it’s what we feel when we teach”, she detailed.

Meanwhile, Luz Olvera, medalist at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, considered that the discipline has the advantage of adding to the practitioner a series of skills that not only work for sport, but for everyday life.

“The routine that it adds to you is very important, because you already bring it, it is something with which you are already there and that is present and is greatly respected,” he explained.

Finally, he considered that the fact of having high-level coaches, as well as constant role models, have been key to keeping the hotbed in constant growth.

“We always had judokas who were examples, and as the years passed we were what became that (…) I hope that the boys who come do not lose hope and fight to continue on their way”, he closed.
