Goffin misses 3 match points and loses to Nardi in the 2nd qualifying round at Nur-Sultan but can hope for a repechage

David Goffin is definitely going through a complicated end to the season. The Liégeois was eliminated in the second qualifying round of the ATP 500 of Nur-Sultan by the young Italian Luca Nardi151st in the world, 6-3 6-7 (3/7) 6-7 (2/7).

Solid in the first set, Goffin, now 65th in the world, then missed his opportunities to break his opponent in the next two sets and was surprised on two tie-breaks.

At 6-5 in the second set, the Belgian number 1 had three match points on his opponent’s serve but failed to convert them. Seeded number 1 in qualifying, he can still hope to be drafted as lucky loser.

After a little improvement at the start of the summer, notably with a quarter-final at Wimbledon, Goffin again seems to have fallen into doubt again, notably with an elimination in the first round of the US Open where he had served twice for the match against at Musetti and an elimination in the first round of the Metz Open two weeks ago against Gilles Simon.

He had however seemed to regain some confidence in the Davis Cup where he had won two of his three singles matches against Otte et Bonzi after bowing to From Minaur.
