Franck Ribéry announced his retirement from football at the age of 39 | A series

No player wants that day to come when he has to say goodbye to the job that gave him everything: football. A life full of successes and achievements getting into important line-ups with his teammates and with which he won several titles. It is the story of Franck Ribéry who could not recover from the consequences of his knee injuries.

After winning everything with Bayern Munich, Franck Ribéry left Germany in search of fresh air when his sporting retirement was already beginning to be rumoured. He settled in Italy with Fiorentina and Salernitana, where he had a different face from the one he had lived with the Bavarians and with the viola club: fight not to relegation. In Italian territory he did not have the desired regularity with an age that was already close to 40 years.

Some time ago, Arjen Robben retired, but he returned to Groningen months after having confirmed the end point of his sports career. However, the same may not happen with Franck Ribéry, who is dragging the consequences of injuries. A difficult decision for any professional in the discipline, but in the Frenchman’s case, there seems to be no turning back.

Salernitana managed to save itself from relegation last season, and now it fights for the same goal, not to go down to the second division. Franck Ribéry will officially leave football after a year of little prominence. With the recurrent injuries, the Frenchman underwent some tests in Munich and they told him that he had no salvation. Returning to the best levels of him at 39 years old was unlikely.

According to the above, Il Mattino, an Italian media outlet, confessed that Franck Ribéry made the decision to end his sports career at the age of 39. Luckily for the Frenchman, he seems to already have a new job. Salernitana will terminate his contract that ends in 2023, but they offered him a place in the coaching staff headed by Davide Nicola.

Franck Ribéry culminated a brilliant story in football. He is the flagship of France in the national team, and an idol of Bayern Munich after 12 seasons. He achieved 24 titles with the Bavarians, perhaps the best trophy, the Uefa Champions League in 2013.
