Training camp against the away crisis!

Now Fortuna is fighting what, according to the club’s organizers, doesn’t even exist!

Sports director Christian Weber (39) categorically refused to admit an away complex after the 0-1 draw against Darmstadt. Düsseldorf has been waiting for a win abroad since the first matchday in Magdeburg (2:1) – for almost exactly THREE months!

A mini training camp should finally break the curse…

Tuesday Fortuna travels to Bad Gögging (2400 inhabitants) in Lower Bavaria. Background: The former spa town of Bavaria is only about 50 kilometers away from Regensburg. There there is a cup game against second division Jahn on Wednesday (8.45 p.m. / Sky).

But after the game Düsseldorf does not go back, the entourage stays in Bad Gögging until Friday, then switches seamlessly to Karlsruhe (320 kilometers away).

Coach Daniel Thioune (48) justifies this with training control and travel strains, which should be minimized in this way – because Fortuna plays at KSC on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky).

But one thing is also clear: the coach uses this opportunity cleverly to gather his players around him several days before the next away game in the league – without distraction, with plenty of time for one-on-one conversations. So that the curse in a foreign country finally disappears from people’s minds.

Thioune: “Somehow there are boards in front of the opponent’s gates that we can’t break through. We don’t use the few promotions we have. Personally, it’s alien to me not to win away from home for so many weeks. We just have to finally get out the saw and cut through the boards.”

By the way: If Fortuna wins against Karlsruhe, the players can get ready for the next training camp. Thioune: “We’ll be on the road a lot next week, including two days before the game in Karlsruhe. If that helps us to be successful, we will do the same against Kiel the week after.”
