Patric Young, who had a car accident and was paralyzed from the waist down in the past months, continues to struggle to get back on his feet.
Former Galatasaray player Patric Young, who was seriously injured in a somersault with his car in July and was confined to a wheelchair as a result of the accident, continues to fight the hardest battle of his life.
Attending an interview at his old school, Providence, Young talked about the accident and the aftermath a few days before the wedding ceremony. spoke. The former basketball player spoke of his efforts to come to terms with this situation:
“Obviously, it’s hard to get the news that you’re paralyzed and have a low chance of walking again. But there is still a chance.”
“I accepted the situation as it was and realized that all the mental and emotional parts of Patric Young that made Patric Young are still here. Even though I’m a little disabled physically, nothing can stop me from being a good father, wife, and person, as well as the things that brought me here that have nothing to do with my physical ability.”
Patric Young, who had more than one medical intervention to his leg after the accident, stated that his aim was to walk again, and emphasized how important belief is in this journey.
“We cannot control events, but we can control the way we approach and view them.”
Expressing that he had to reshape his life as a disabled person after the accident and accept the fact that he needed the help of others, Young also talked about this process.
“I realized that it was okay to ask for help physically. I was an independent and strong man who could do most of the things he wanted on his own. But now I’m at a point where I need a lot more help and that’s okay. That doesn’t make me any less of a man or less of a human being. In essence, it provides an opportunity for other people to serve and for me to receive loving service from other people.”
Stating that he went through difficult times after the accident and that his relatives can confirm this, the former star player finally said:
“I only choose joy. There are still many things I cannot do, but there are many things I can do. I will be bringing life and joy when I am around people and my therapist. And I want to send the message that no matter how dark and distressing the situation you are in, there are things you can choose to control your attitude, your effort, and your actions. So, I’m living it.”
After a successful college career, Patric Young embarked on his European adventure in 2014 with the Galatasaray jersey. The player, who was 22 years old at that time, took the road to EuroLeague giant Olympiakos the next season with his performance in our country. However, serious knee injuries prevented Young from reaching his potential and his career ended early in 2019.
