The Blaugrana club is already working on the next transfer window with several names on the table

Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba must leave to lighten the wage bill and Frenkie de Jong to make money

The work of the sports management does not stop, although barely a month has passed since the summer transfer market closed. As during the past season, Barça plans to move in January to improve the team, with several objectives, both in the ups and downs.

There are three footballers who could stop wearing the Blaugrana shirt from next year: Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba and Frenkie de Jong.

They are the ones who have the most numbers to leave the Camp Nou and from the sports management they are already working on it. They are aware that it will be difficult to dismiss them in January, but the intention is that they will not be in the squad next year.

The four captains could be playing their last season. While Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto end their contract on June 30, the departures of Piqué and Jordi Alba are more urgentalthough their contracts expire in 2024.

Beyond the sporting reasons (Gerard is the fifth center-back in the squad and the one from L’Hospitalet, the third left-back), his high salaries are unaffordable for the entity. Reducing the wage bill continues to be one of Barça’s priorities.

On the other hand, Frenkie de Jong could also leave, as discussed during the summer transfer market. He is the only footballer for whom a sufficiently important transfer cost could be received enough to continue refloating the financial situation that the club is going through. Several Premier League clubs are interested in him and his departure could be anticipated next summer.
