What a contrast. While Anderlecht experienced one of the darkest days in club history, Aron Dønnum made it an unforgettable evening for him and his girlfriend. The whole stadium witnessed how, surrounded by all the players and staff, he proposed to his girlfriend. “She said yes”the stadium speaker announced, whereupon all of Sclessin erupted in cheers.

“It was planned. But if we had lost, I wouldn’t have done it,” the Norwegian winger admitted to Eleven Sports’ camera afterwards. “This was the perfect moment. We’ve been together for two years now and I love her incredibly. I knew she really wanted to get married. So no, there was no risk of her refusing,” the groom-to-be laughed.

“We are a family”

Only a few players at Standard, including goalscorer Philip Zinckernagel, were aware of Dønnum’s plans. “Nico (Raskin, red.) a Barrett (Laursen, ed.) knew about it. Our job was to bring the group together so that Aron could propose. For all the other players it was a total surprise. Fantastic, isn’t it? This was a big moment for us all. It shows that we really are a family, who care about each other and want the best for each other.”

A beautiful scene that was unfortunately overshadowed by the behavior of the Anderlecht supporters. “I’ve seen some fiery derbies (sic) in my career, but never one that they’ve had to stop,” said the Danish attacker, who made the crossing from Greece this summer. “It’s a waste. For us as a team and for our supporters. We would have loved to throw an even bigger party, but unfortunately the visiting fans put a stop to that. Fortunately we get the three points and there was that proposal from Dønnum. A beautiful end to a scandalous evening.”
