Double Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl will be making her comeback at the end of the month after a six-month break.

The dressage rider from Tuntenhausen wants to compete with her gold horse Dalera at the World Cup tournament in Lyon for the first time since her World Cup victory in April, as national trainer Monica Theodorescu confirmed. Von Bredow-Werndl was pregnant and became a mother for the second time in August.

The rider, who was decorated with two gold medals in Tokyo, originally wanted to ride again in September and make her comeback at the tournament in Ludwigsburg. But because of the controversial maternity protection rule of the World Equestrian Federation FEI, she gave up. If she had started within a period of six months after the start of the requested maternity leave, she would have lost world ranking points.

She found this interpretation of the regulations “simply unfair” because the FEI made it impossible for her to come back quickly after her baby break, she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I was really looking forward to my comeback after the baby break in Ludwigsburg, but my participation was not approved.”
