Dietrich Mateschitz, founder of the Red Bull team, dies

The Austrian businessman Dietrich Mateschitzowner of Red Bull and founder of the Formula 1 team, has died at the age of 78, in the run-up to the United States Grand Prix. The energy drink team has confirmed the death of its founder.

In 2004 he bought the Jaguar team with the fortune he made from the birth of that drink since 1984, renamed it Red Bull and led him to success in six years with Sebastian Vettel. The German linked four titles in a row with Red Bull, between 2010 and 2013, the Austrian team also being champion of the Builders World Cup. Last year, Red Bull was champion again with Max Verstappen and the Dutchman repeated in this 2022.

“I am very saddened by the news of the passing of Mateschitz, a tremendously respected and beloved figure in the Formula 1 family. He was a visionary and a man who helped transform our sport. He created the Red Bull brand, which is known throughout the world. I will miss him the same as all of F1“said the CEO of F1, Stefano Domenicali.

Since its inception, Red Bull has been associated with various extreme sports, in addition to landing in the ‘Great Circus’. On the other hand, the energy drink also reached the world of football, buying teams in Salzburg, Leipzig, New York, Campinas (Brazil) and even founding a team in Ghana.
