Despite the harmless appearance against Nürnberg (0:1), there was good news: Rouwen Hennings (35) celebrated his comeback after persistent problems with his heel. As a joker, he couldn’t turn the tide, but he should shoot Fortuna as soon as possible as a starter from the burgeoning crisis – for the umpteenth time.

Last season his 13 league goals (alongside Khaled Narey’s) saved the club from complete collapse. Now Hennings should go up again. First he has to shoot Fortuna into the round of 16 on Wednesday in Regensburg (8.45 p.m. / Sky), then on Sunday in Karlsruhe (1.30 p.m. / Sky) back into the promotion race.
Hennings: “I’m glad to be back. The injury was annoying, it was annoying that it took so long. It was maximally distressing for the players who had nothing. It’s exhausting when you always have to go full throttle and you can’t rotate. You need this freshness especially offensively.”
And Hennings should bring that back in after a five-week break. Dawid Kownacki (25) looks overplayed and exhausted after his mega start to the season (5 goals and 4 assists), and had to play sick or injured at times. Thanks to Hennings, coach Daniel Thioune (48) could give him a break – or provide a partner who is also known for his clipping qualities.

Thioune: “The boys are a bit tired, but I still say we only play once a week. Others play every three days and 60 games a year with no problems. It’s not the case with Dawid that his strength is fading, he needs his moments to be able to deliver 90 minutes again. Maybe it works with both. As soon as Rouwen is fit, he is of course a real alternative.”
Especially since Fortuna was not only harmless against Nuremberg with a tip, but also had no great chances in Darmstadt (0:1) and Hamburg (0:2). With two forwards things went much better in the first few weeks of the season.
And that’s how it should be again after Henning’s return!
