Blitz double pack ends Real series |

The Leipzig surprise!

RB — that now stands for Real Besieger!

Leipzig beat defending champions Real Madrid 3-2 at home in the Champions League — with two real lightning goals!

With Donetsk drawing at the same time against Celtic Glasgow, coach Marco Rose’s team could draw next week against Ukraine in the final of the group stage match (to be played in Warsaw) and be in the round of 16, for which the Whites had long since qualified .

RB surprises and ends Real’s super streak: The reigning Champions League winners are unbeaten in 16 games this season (14 wins, 2 draws). Leipzig is now undefeated for eight games.

Before kick-off there is a minute of applause in the stadium (national coach Hansi Flick is also there) for the club patron and sponsor Dietrich Mateschitz, who died at the age of 78. The Red Bull founder had wished for it in writing. He didn’t want the players to wear black ribbons.

RB managing director Oliver Mintzlaff with a big lump in his throat at DAZN: “I had a very close relationship with him. Without Mr. Mateschitz we would not be standing here today. So we are all affected. We want to send him greetings upstairs!”

A little excitement before the game: A flag bearer is hit in the head by a ball, has to be treated and then taken to the hospital.

13. Minute: Gvardiol nods the ball from three meters to make it 1-0. Real keeper Courtois had previously saved a sensational Szoboszlai header.

16. Minute: Courtois storms out of goal — and misses the ball! But from 17 meters Nkunku only hits the side netting instead of the empty goal.

18. Minute: Awesome 2:0! Nkunku slams the thing from seven meters under the bar.

RB also stands for RUMMS-BUMMS-Start!

However, the pressure from Real, with the ailing Benzema, Modric and Valverde staying at home in Madrid, is increasing, RB keeper Blaswich with two good saves. But he can’t prevent the connection right before the break!

44. Minute: Vinicius Junior, who can be seen in no time at all, heads in a sharp Asensio cross from eleven meters to make it 1: 2.

Real presses and presses – but RB makes everything clear!

81. Minute: Substitute Werner pushes a Simakan cross over the line to make it 3:1. The preliminary decision!

90. Minute + 3: After Nkunku foul on Rodrygo there are penalties again. The fouled occurs himself – shortened to 2:3.

Werner after the game at DAZN: “It would have been doubly good to secure progress on this great evening. We deserve this good starting position. When we’re 1-0 up, we’re a very, very good team. The Champions League winner felt that here today.”

Real defender Rüdiger: “We slept for the first 20 minutes. Two corners, two goals – then of course it will be difficult. We just weren’t ready to win the tackles that RB won. Our goal was clear, to win here. We have to tick off the game.”
