BVB: Hummels explains: what’s really behind my Motzki interviews | Sports

Mats Hummels (33) caused a stir after his Dortmund lost 2-0 in Union two weeks ago with criticism of his teammates: “Sometimes a simple 20-meter back pass is better, even if it doesn’t appear on social media afterwards .”

He meant teammate Karim Adeyemi (20), who wanted to clear the ball with the hook before a goal was conceded – that went wrong.

He admitted to ‘Sky’ on Saturday that the public criticism was not spontaneous: “I’ve done it once or twice. Sometimes it’s the last resort. You think, ‘Okay, maybe that will help.’”

Doesn’t he prefer to clarify these things in the dressing room?

Hummel’s honest: “It is always said that this should be done internally. But you can be sure that this has been addressed internally more than once. You can say things internally dozens of times, or even more. Sometimes it’s not so wrong if you address something like that publicly.”

The defender said what he wants to achieve with it: “It’s important to have pressure-resistant players. Because there are a lot of players where you have to fight resistance. When you’re under pressure and you learn how to deal with it early in your career, you get better at it.”
